திருச்சி கரூர் பாதையில் திருச்சியில் இருந்து இருபது கிலோ தொலைவில் உள்ளது மாயனூர். அதன் பக்கத்தில் உள்ள ஊர் மதுக்கரை என்பது. முன்னர் தமிழ்நாட்டை சேர, சோழ, பாண்டிய மன்னர்கள் ஆண்டு வந்த போது அவர்களுக்கு இடையே அடிக்கடி போர் நடந்து வந்தது. அதனால் நாடு நலிவுற்றது. அதைக் கண்டு வருந்திய குறுநில மன்னர்கள் ஒரு மகானை சந்தித்து அவரிடம் அதை தடுக்க வழி கேட்டனர். அந்த மகானும் அவர்களை பார்வதியை சென்று வேண்டிக் கொள்ளுமாறு கூறினார். அவள் தவமிருந்த இடத்தை கஷ்டப்பட்டு கண்டு பிடித்து அவளிடம் நாட்டின் நிலைமையைக் கூற அவளும் மாயனூருக்கு தான் வந்து அந்த மூன்று மன்னர்களையும் சந்திப்பதாகக் கூறினாள். அவள் மாயனூருக்கு ஒரு மலைப் பெண் போலச் செல்ல அவளை சந்திக்க சேர, சோழ, பாண்டிய மன்னர்கள் வந்தனர். அவள் அவர்களிடம் பேசிய பின் மாயனூரின் மேற்குப் பகுதி சோழ நாடு, கிழக்கு பகுதி சேர நாடு மற்றும் தெற்குப் பகுதி பாண்டிய நாடு என அழைக்கப்படும் என அவர்களுக்கு கூறினாள். அவள் திரும்பிச் செல்லத் துவங்கிய போதுதான் வந்தது பார்வதி தேவி என்பதை அவர்கள் புரிந்து கொண்டனர். அவள் கால்களில் விழுந்து மன்னிப்புக் கேட்டனர். அவளை அங்கேயே தங்குமாறு வேண்டினார்கள். அவளும் மதுக்கரையில் தங்குவதற்கு ஒப்புக் கொண்டாள். அவளை செல்லாண்டி அம்மன் என அழைத்து அவளுக்கு ஆலயம் அமைத்து மூவரும் வழிபட்டனர். ஒரு முறை சோழ நாட்டில் பஞ்சமும் பட்டினியும் ஏற்பட அந்த நட்டு மன்னன் அங்கு வந்து அவளை வேண்ட அவர்கள் நாட்டின் துயரை துடைக்க அவள் சோழ நாட்டை நோக்கிஅமர்ந்தாள். அந்த நாட்டின் பிரச்சனை தீர்ந்தது.<br />
தென் பகுதியில் தேங்காய் தோட்டமும், வடக்கில் காவேரி ஆறும் ஓட செல்லாண்டி அம்மன் வடகிழக்கை நோக்கி சிங்கத்தின் மீது அமர்ந்தாள். அந்த ஆலயத்துக்குத் தேவையான நீர் காவேரியில் இருந்துதான் எடுத்துச் செல்லப்படுகின்றது. மதுரையை ஆண்டஆரிய ராஜா என்பவர் ஒருமுறை மதுரை மீனாஷியை அபிஷேகிக்க காவேரியில் இருந்து நீர் எடுத்துச் சென்றான். ஆகவே அந்த இடத்தில் இருந்த பாதை நல்ல பாதையாக மாற்றப்பட்டது . செல்லாண்டி அம்மன் ஆலயத்தில் இடது பக்கத்தில் ஆரிய ராஜாவுக்கும் அவர் மனைவி சந்தனத்தம்மாளுக்கும் சிலைகள் உள்ளன. பேச்சியம்மனுக்கும் சிலை உள்ளது.<br />
சோழ நாட்டின் ஒரு பகுதியில் இருந்த சிறு மன்னன் மக்களை துன்புறுத்தினான். அந்த நாட்டு மக்கள் வந்து செல்லாண்டி ஆமனிடம்அம்மனிடம் அவன் கொடுமைகளைக் கூற பேச்சியம்மனை அங்கு அனுப்பி அவனையும் அவன் மகனையும் அவள் கொன்றாள்.<br />
அந்த ஆலயத்தில் மதுரை வீரன், காத்தவராயன் போன்றவர்களுக்கும் சிலைகள் உள்ளன. சந்தனக் கருப்பு குதிரை மீது அமர்ந்தவாறு அந்த ஆலயத்தை பாதுகாக்கின்றார். அந்த இடத்தில் இருந்து நதிக்கு செல்ல பதினெட்டு படிகள் உள்ளன. அதன் இடது புறத்தில் சிவன் ஆலயம் ஆலமரத்தின் அடியில் உள்ளது. அங்கு சென்று வேண்டினால் புத்திர பாக்கியம் கிடைக்குமாம்.<br />

<span lang="EN">"A stanza ascribed to the poetess Auvaiyar^ (whom Mr. Kanakasabhai assigns to the Ist century A.D.) gives the boundaries of the Chola kingdom as the sea on the east, on the north the Pennar river (which reaches the sea near Cuddalore), on the south the Vellar (near the southern border of the Tanj ore district), and on the west Kutagiri, Kottagiri, or Kottaikarai. The last of these names means ' fort bank ' and tradition says that it refers to the great embankment of which traces still stand in the Kulittalai taluk. <span lang="EN">The wall is a rock and earthern wall six feet to six feet if hight and breadth on the <a href="http://www.blogger.com/wiki/Kongu_Nadu"><span style="color: blue;">Kongu Nadu</span></a> side. An adjoining embankment around thirty feet wide runs alongwith the wall on the <a href="http://www.blogger.com/wiki/Chola_Nadu"><span style="color: blue;">Chola Nadu</span></a> side. The wall is in fragments as most of it has been used for building material in recent times though there is an ancient curse attached to it.
